From enchanting fantasies to riveting poetry – our Creative Writing classes at Sounds of Color Studio will teach you the elements that make stories resonate and help you discover your own voice as an aspiring author. Students will also develop spelling, vocabulary, and reading skills with guided group discussions of popular literary works - all in a fun and engaging learning environment.

How We Teach • Creative Writing Classes

Creative writing classes at Sounds of Color Studio are designed especially for elementary, middle school, and high school students who are looking to strengthen their literacy skills in reading and writing. Our experienced teachers provide individualized instruction to help students build vocabulary and language skills, while learning how to write stories with their own authentic point of view. Students also participate in guided group discussions on popular books and poetry to help expand their writing portfolio and develop their style and voice as writers.

We offer three different levels of creative writing classes: elementary, middle school, and high school. This allows our teachers to provide tailored instruction and guidance for our students based on their learning needs. A sample of the different writing skills covered in our creative writing classes include:

  • Descriptive writing

  • Character/setting/plot

  • Story structure

  • Vocabulary development

  • Storytelling techniques

  • Creating dialogue and action

  • Literary analysis

Fees • Group Class Schedule

Creative Writing Class Fees*

Private: 1 lesson/week • 1 hour • $400/month + $100 material fee**
Semi-Private: 1 lesson/week • 1 hour • $300/month per student + $100 material fee**
Group: 1 lesson/week • 1 hour • $200/month per student + $100 material fee**

*Private and group class fees include 4 lessons per month. If a month has 5 weeks, there is no additional charge for the fifth class. All class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

**Material fees are non-refundable, non-transferable, one-time fees.

 

Group Creative Writing Classes Schedule*

Tuesday:
6:00pm - 7:00pm (ONLINE; Ages 10+)

Friday:
5:00pm - 6:00pm (Ages 5+)

*Group classes have limited availability. Class availability and schedule subject to change based on enrollment and demand.

 

Studio Classes

Our studio creates an engaging and rich academic learning environment perfect for creative writing classes. Small group class sizes mean our students receive hands-on instruction from our teachers, and tailored curriculum based on their grade level.

Online Classes

We know life can be busy, which is why we offer online creative writing classes as an option for our students. So whether you need to schedule a make-up lesson online, or practice your reading and writing skills remotely, we’ll be there. Online students must have their own device capable of running Zoom/Google Meet and have a strong/reliable internet connection for use during online lessons.

  • We offer Creative Writing classes for students as young as 1st grade.

  • Yes. Our teachers have extensive experience and/or educational backgrounds in their area of specialization. Every teacher is thoroughly vetted and goes through a comprehensive background check, including FBI and Department of Justice clearance.

  • We do our best to match every student with the perfect teacher, but if for any reason it's just not the right fit, we will be more than happy to find an alternative solution. Depending on the situation, this may include finding a new teacher for private lessons, or a different group class.

  • Yes! We have many students who require special learning accommodations, and our dedicated and caring teachers help everyone shine in their classes. Please inform us of any special circumstances during registration.
